Dr Shahid Baqar

I graduated from HPS In 1979. After school I attended DJ Science College and AdamJee Science College. In 1981, i was selected for Engineering in Pakistan Air Force and reported at PAF College Sargodha as a cadet. I then graduated from College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE), PAF Academy Risalpur and got a commission in the Engineering Branch of Pakistan Air Force. In 2000, I did Masters (Avionics) from CAE, NUST and was awarded the President’s Gold Medal for securing 1st position. In 2007, I did PhD from Royal Military College of Science, DCMT Defence Academy of the UK. I served PAF for 38 years, during this time I worked at various Radar systems, commanded R&D organizations and served as Associate Professor and Head of Department at CAE. I have also served as Director Engineering and Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Technology) at Air Headquarters. During my PAF service, I was awarded with Chief of the Air Staff Commendation certificates twice and the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (military) by the President of Pakistan. When I joined PAF, I found the training was very tough. However with constant learning, traveling and discovering I have grown to like my job so much that it became my hobby.

Suleiman Hassan

I graduated from HPS 1971 and then did my MBBS from Dow. After a year’s internship at Civil Hospital, I left for New York, where I did my residency in General Surgery. Thanks to my hard work, I was then accepted at the Cleveland Clinic, which was and still is the #1 heart center in the world. Residency training in those days had no work hour limits. We went in around 6 am and came home the next night whenever the work was done. A couple years later I was recruited by Aga Khan University to build cardiac surgery from scratch. For the next 5 years I built the first program in Pakistan with a database, quality controls and benchmarking. I also introduced open heart surgery for children smaller than 15 kg. I then spearheaded multiple innovative and educational programs and initiatives for cardiology in Pakistan. I currently practice heart surgery in New York. My son is a heart surgeon In Ohio, daughter is deputy attorney general in California and another daughter is about to start medical school. All this was possible because at Habib Public School honesty, perseverance, hard work and compassion were made a part of our being.

Qamar Ibrahim

I joined Habib Public School in 1975 in the 2nd grade and had a passion for hockey right from then. I would try to bring my own hockey stick but since that wasn’t allowed, our principal ended up confiscating it the first two times. Even then, I persisted and tried a third time, and finally she realised my love for the game and I became the only student permitted to bring his own hockey stick to the school.

In 10th grade I achieved my goal of being the school’s hockey team captain and a house captain. My time as house captain helped me realise my strengths as a leader, and was of great help to me in my time as a player in the Pakistan hockey team and then again as a coach. After graduating from HPS I joined PIA’s sports department. There I met and trained under Olympian coaches Saeed Anwar and Asad Malik. I seized this opportunity and trained immensely hard, and worked my way up to first the junior and then men’s national hockey team. Being in Habib Public School helped shape me into the player who achieved all his dreams in life.
