Continuing Personal and Professional Learning (CPPL)

In the modern era of global learning and social transformation, teachers play a more important role than ever before. A teacher that can start the fire of life-long learning and development in their students is worth their weight in gold.

The CPPL Department focuses on upgrading existing standards of teaching and learning at HPS. Every teacher must themselves have a spirit of continuous learning to advance the quality of our education system and the quality of students’ learning. CPPL planning is integrated into the School Development Plan and all staff members have a responsibility to participate in school focused CPPL and personal career development plans. At HPS, all of our teachers are expected to be reflective and self-aware practitioners. Teachers are encouraged to develop their knowledge, skills, level of understanding, and attitudes to enhance their professional output. All staff members at HPS will have regular opportunities to discuss their aspirational professional goals.

CPPL

Habib Public School supports a wide portfolio of CPPL approaches in an effort to match the preferred learning styles of its staff and to maximize the impacts of teaching and learning within the school. The ‘teacher-as-asset’ model involves teacher participation and recognizes that current successful practices can be used as an effective reference for development. Evidence from teachers’ class based research helps to create effective practices instead of a ‘teacher-deficit’ model where training is imposed and participating teachers have no influence on the program.

CPPL activities include:

  • Opportunities to attend courses and conferences.
  • In-school training that uses the expertise already available within the school, e.g., team teaching, coaching/mentoring, skills in classroom observation.
  • Access to external consultants or relevant experts.
  • School visits to observe or participate in good and successful practice, e.g., visits to a training school.
  • Exchanges or placement opportunities with e.g., another teacher, school, industry, or for an international exchange.
  • Shadowing opportunities to observe experienced colleagues in another setting.
  • Research opportunities.
  • Distance learning opportunities, e.g. training videos, reflections, and simulations.
  • The chance to gather useful practical experience, e.g. opportunities to present a paper or contribute to a training program.
  • Job enrichment and enlargement opportunities, e.g. higher levels of responsibility, or job sharing and/or rotations, etc.
