Curriculum & Assesment
Curriculum:
Our early childhood education model is 100% focused on nurturing your child’s learning capabilities from a young age so as to set a very warm and positive foundation for their future in education. The curriculum at HGS pre-primary school is in accordance with the national curriculum and places a great focus on developing warm and loving interactions between children and their caregivers. Our early childhood curriculum places a strong focus on teaching young children how to collaborate, share, cooperate, and show kindness to others. Students will also develop a variety of cognitive, language, motor, and social skills through play and exploration, and ultimately develop the skills that they will need to successfully navigate their adult lives.
Assessments
At HGS pre-primary school, we do not believe in formally testing children at such a young age. The students in pre-primary school are only just beginning their educational journey and are at the baseline of developing their skills. To test them at this stage, we believe, would put an unnecessary burden of stress on their young shoulders, and may even hinder their skill development Instead, HGS pre-primary follows a formative approach, comprising a continuous assessment framework. Children will be observed and their progress continuously recorded. Our assessment framework notes down each student’s socio-emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development. This data allows us to individually understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses and form individualized plans to improve their skills.
Some of the ways we track each student’s progress are as follows:
- Regular observation
- Monthly/ bi-monthly communication diaries to reflect student performance
- Teacher checklists
- Parent/child interviews
Each academic year is made up of 6 units (that are 4-5 weeks long each). Performance reports are shared with parents twice a year at mid term and at the end of the year. These reports are specifically designed to reflect each child’s overall performance against the outlined learning objectives. The student will also be assessed for their attitude towards learning (ATL) and these will be assessed with accompanying comments from the teacher.
